Building Our New Home
TOGETHER

Support our vision for the future of Mudluk

Our Vision

Founded in Minneapolis by Sayge Carroll, Katrina Knutson, and Keegan Xavi in 2022, Mudluk Pottery is a safe, welcoming space where artists of all backgrounds can explore, create, and grow. It is an essential and thriving artist incubator and a community hub at the center of the arts ecosystem in South Minneapolis.

In a short period of time, the current 1,200 square foot studio proved the business concept – Mudluk built the demand and we have now outgrown the space. In the current location, demand consistently exceeds capacity. Mudluk’s earned-revenue programs happen in one room asynchronously, always in rotation. This requires Mudluk, which serves 18 core members and 2,000-2,500 individuals annually, to constantly be in negotiation with scheduling.

To ensure we are able to continue to provide a welcoming, accessible, and safe environment for community members now and into the future, Mudluk is moving to our new location on 2908 Harriet Ave S, Minneapolis in the LynnLake neighborhood!

With our larger new location, Mudluk will shift from constraint to flow. We will serve 50 core members (who will have 24 hour access) and 4,300-5,800 individuals annually through synchronous programming. Also, it will house Make Space Studio, Mudluk’s newly established nonprofit organization dedicated to uplifting Black, brown, queer, disabled, and neurodivergent creatives, prioritizing self-taught artists from all walks of life.

The expansion of Mudluk will transform our financial model. We will be able to:

  • Enhance programs

  • Repair, maintain and update equipment

  • Increase salaries and wages for staff

  • Offer stipends to guest artists and educators

  • Host more events that support communities

The move protects and strengthens Mudluk – ensuring long-term membership retention and stable earned income, while increasing capacity for classes, partnerships, and community engagement.

In other words, Mudluk will have the opportunity to establish itself as a legacy art center.

“I love spending my time at Mudluk because I can be myself and try new things all while being surrounded and supported by an awesome community.”

When I needed a respite from a family crisis, I took a class at Mudluk and fell in love. After only a few months at the wheel, I became a member not just because I love experimenting with clay, but because of the radical belonging, commitment, and pleasure I experienced at the studio. It's one of those rare spaces where art and community shape each other, building a more just, creative, and peaceful world.”
